Starting now, check off these things you are willing to do to help the environment!

I WILL:

  • Use reusable bags to carry groceries and shopping purchases
  • Turn off the lights when I leave a room
  • Take a shower instead of a bath
  • Recycle as much as possible
  • Plant trees
  • Turn off the water while I brush my teeth
  • Walk, ride my bike, take public transportation or carpool
  • Turn off the computer or TV, and unplug them when they are not in use.

AND I WILL:

  • Talk about being “green” with my friends, kids at school and teachers (Note: be sure to ask if you can discuss it in class!)
  • Eat local, organic food (when possible)
  • Buy rechargeable batteries
  • Drop off empty cans and bottles to a recycling depot for cash
  • Join an environmental group
  • Stop littering
  • Set up recycling bins in local areas
  • Help implement a recycling plan in my classroom at school
  • Use both sides of looseleaf and handouts

WILL YOU?

  • Donate things I’m not using to a local charity or organization
  • Print fewer emails and other online resources
  • Print things at a faster speed (and in black and white) to save ink
  • Share this list with my parents and friends
  • Not pour hazardous and/or environmentally dangerous materials down the drain
  • Pay attention to the recycling symbols and place recyclables in the right containers
  • Try to reuse items as many times as possible
  • Open windows before using fans or A/C

FYI: The HRM Hazardous Waste Depot is located at 20 Horseshoe Drive, Bayers Lake, Nova Scotia! Check for local waste-depots near you!
