By Emma McBoyle (Summer 2008)
I wait, wait for the wave to capture me,
Wash over me and sweep me off to the land of silent thoughts,
Wrapped in my blankets warm, yet shivering, with memories, realizations and regret.
Whilst all else are sleeping, rested and dreaming,
I toss and turn in the light of the moon that tip-toes in through my window,
Tickles my face with reassurance that I’m not alone,
Finding comfort in the darkness that surrounds me.
The gentle purring of my cat that rumbles lightly against my leg,
Whose sleepy eyes reflect the moonlight,
I, hearing the rhythm of the soft purring,
Begin to dismiss all thoughts, pushing them in a drawer,
And locking it for yet another night.
