by Lil' J May 23, 2025

Ayokunmi Oladipo wins with the word T.E.M.P.E.S.T.U.O.U.S.’!

The best BEA’s CAEP’s (Cultural Academic Enrichment Programs) young spellers from across Nova Scotia met in Halifax.

Over 100 competing spellers took to the Mount Saint Vincent University stage. All vie for a spot in the BEA 19th annual REP (Regional Educators Program)  Provincial Spelling BEE Championship competition in Halifax on Saturday, May 10th, 2025.

After multiple nail-biting, intense competitive rounds, the announcer spoke the final championship word: tempestuous. Letter by letter the air was being sucked out of the room, as the speller #38 slowly annuuciated each letter T.E.M.P.E.S.T.U.O.U.S.! Then the stadium exploded in applause, screaming and cheering, as the announcer announced, “That’s correct, we have a winner.”

An extremely shocked eleven-year-old, Ayokunmi Oladipo (Speller #38) sealed the win by spelling the championship word T.E.M.P.E.S.T.U.O.U.S.!

I was excited to share this memory with my brother, #44 Olateju Oladipo, who also did extremely well, outspelling 103 spellers to take 4th place.

We studied together and challenged each other before the competition and cheered each other on, during, and after the competition. My win is his win.#38 Ayokunmi Oladipo My win is my brothers win too #44 Olateju Oladipo,
