Oh, Diva

Push pin

Dear Diva

I tried to please so many people over the holidays and all I did was make a complete mess out of the situation. With only 24 hours in a day, I had friends from school invite me over to their house while my family expected me to be home to celebrate with them. I really tried to make everyone happy by spending a little time here and there. In the process, I missed visiting a few of my friends and now they are upset with me and feel they are not important enough or I chose others over them. I tried to explain but no matter what I said, the more of a mess I made. Oh, Diva, I know my friends will get over it, but what should I do so this never happens again?

Dear Not Enough Hours in the Day

The first thing is to plan your day, then carry out your plan. For example, if you only have a few hours to spare one day, plan to meet other people the next day. And whatever you do, do not tell people you’re coming when you know you can’t make it. People will sit around waiting for you when they could have made other plans. This really makes people upset.

The second thing is to learn time management. Every morning, make a list of the things you want to complete. Then re-read your list and note beside each item the level of urgency of completing the task and whether it needs to be done today or tomorrow.

Now that you have some time management skills under your belt, the next occasion should be easier. So don’t beat yourself up over this; your true friends will understand and get over it.
